Fuses are the oldest protective devices in the electrical industry and are still widely used due to their advantageous features. One of their important applications is the protection of semiconductor devices, such as diodes, thyristors, power transistors, and GTOs, found in current and frequency converters. These semiconductor devices, while capable of handling high maximum continuous currents and peak inverse voltages, have poor overload capacities and require sensitive and fast-acting protection.
